About

Coming in early 2025 at the corner of First St. & E. Johnson St., Madison’s brick & mortar public market promises to be an inclusive, bustling marketplace showcasing much of what makes our community so special: locally grown and prepared delicious food, refreshing beverages and handcrafted artwork, jewelry, wearables and collectibles.

Our vision is to create a vibrant, year-round public marketplace where new entrepreneurs and long-established Madison favorites will grow their businesses and find success. The Market emphasizes equity through entrepreneurship and through the innovative MarketReady program, the Public Market is already being embraced as a place in Madison where businesses owned and operated by people of color can get their start.

MarketReady Hall will house a food innovation business center that will support the growth of small businesses that wish to create food related products. In MarketReady Hall, entrepreneurs will be offered shared, affordable access to commercial food production equipment and infrastructure that are often beyond the reach of typical low-capital start-ups.

The Madison Public Market will attract 500,000+ visitors each year, support 130+ local businesses, create 100 jobs, and generate $16 million in local sales annually.

Whether visiting for an afternoon or stopping in to grab dinner on the way home, the Madison Public Market is sure to become a favorite destination.

“After being involved with the MPM planning for over a decade, I could not be happier for city leaders and staff, and more importantly the entrepreneurs that will make it special, that this project is inching its way towards reality. The Madison Public Market will be a unique center of excellence serving the Madison Region in the agriculture, food and beverage industry. It will also anchor the Cap East District, making it even more dynamic. Kudos to all those involved.” - Michael Gay, Senior Vice President of Economic Development, Madison Region Economic Partnership
