The Market Experience

From enjoying a family outing on a chilly winter afternoon to impressing out of town business partners, the Madison Public Market will have something to enjoy for everyone. Open year round 5-6 days per week, the Public Market will offer a wide variety of cuisine and handmade goods. No matter when you visit, the Public Market will have something new and interesting to discover during every season.

At the Public Market, you’ll find:

  • fresh, homegrown produce from local, small-scale farmers
  • culturally diverse and convenient prepared food
  • temporary merchant space for unique events and pop-up markets
  • specialty gifts from local artisans
  • iconic artwork
  • a gathering place that brings the best of everything South Central Wisconsin offers in one friendly, vibrant place

Coming in 2026 at the corner of First St. & E. Johnson St. (at 202 N. First Street), Madison’s brick & mortar public market promises to be an inclusive, bustling marketplace showcasing much of what makes our community so special: locally grown and prepared delicious food, refreshing beverages and handcrafted artwork, jewelry, wearables and collectibles.

Our vision is to create a vibrant, year-round public marketplace where new entrepreneurs and long-established Madison favorites will grow their businesses and find success. The Market emphasizes equity through entrepreneurship and through the innovative MarketReady program, the Public Market is already being embraced as a place in Madison where businesses owned and operated by people of color can get their start.

The Madison Public Market will attract 500,000+ visitors each year, support 130+ local businesses, create 100 jobs, and generate $10 million in local sales annually.

Whether visiting for an afternoon or stopping in to grab dinner on the way home, the Madison Public Market is sure to become a favorite destination.

Can’t wait for our Market? Neither can we! Help us make it a reality.

I’m excited about building a market that highlights Madison’s diverse cultures, offers a space for business start-ups, and celebrates Wisconsin agriculture. Food brings people together and the market will be a vibrant, welcoming space for everyone: a year-round special event! - Anne Reynolds
