First Street Gallery at the Madison Public Market
The Madison Public Market Foundation recognizes that arts are a key component of the Market’s offerings and are critical to its success. An estimated 500,000 visitors from across the demographic spectrum will pass through the doors of the Madison Public Market each year. These visitors will experience the region’s different cultures, history, and traditions through an eclectic variety of locally grown and prepared foods, through artistic elements incorporated into the building’s design, and through regularly changing artwork and entertainment. Enhancing the visitor experience are interior and exterior art installations including large-scale murals, sculptures, photography, native landscaping, interactive displays, rotating exhibitions, live entertainment, and more.
The First Street Gallery at The Madison Public Market will feature a rotating display of the region’s finest artists. Exhibitions will typically occur around a theme that matches the Madison Public Market’s founding principals of Equity Through Entrepreneurship, Cultural Diversity, Sustainability, Ecology, History, Place and Inclusivity. It will highlight Madison area values regarding environmentalism, cultural awareness, history, food, and engagement. The gallery will promote Artists from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, showcasing artistic perspectives that reflect the beautiful, distinctive cultures of our region.
The First Street Gallery at the Madison Public Market contains approximately 41 linear feet of wall space designed to showcase regional artists working in mediums of all kinds. The primary focus will be on 2D wall hung artwork. The gallery will enhance the Market as a welcoming space filled with interactive, dynamic artwork in a fun, energy-filled public space.
Area artists are welcome to submit artwork for consideration during open calls that occur on a regular basis. Interested artists must complete an Artists Application Form still in development. Watch this space for Calls for Art.
